Job Description

Duration of contract:    Two year fixed-term contract, with potential to extend

Founded in 1903, Fauna & Flora International (FFI) is the world’s longest-established international conservation organisation.  Our vision is to create a sustainable future for the planet where biodiversity is conserved by the people living closest to it.  We aim to do this through the conservation of threatened species and ecosystems worldwide, choosing solutions that are sustainable, based on sound science and take account of human needs. We operate primarily in developing countries where there is little capacity to conserve endangered and threatened habitats and species.  We have become a trusted entity in the world of conservation.  Today FFI is active in over 40 countries.

Our Conservation Science programme in Cambridge is resourced by a part-time Director of Science (26.25 hours per week), a full-time Programme Manager and Project Officer and a part time Global Trees Campaign Coordinator. The Conservation Science team aims to provide support to our regional and thematic teams as well as locally-based staff and partners as required, and at the same time to take a pragmatic role in the development of FFI as an organisation.

We are now offering a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of our developing marine programme. We are seeking a Programme Manager Marine to take a key role within the Conservation Science team to develop and deliver our marine programme providing support and expertise to the regional and thematic teams. In addition, s/he will support the diverse elements of our work in regards to climate change adaptation, grant management and monitoring processes relating to both the marine and terrestrial environments.

With a minimum of six years experience in marine work, you already have excellent marine conservation skills, a general understanding of the workings of an international organisation and a desire to further develop your conservation skills.  You are highly organised in your approach to work, with meticulous attention to detail and a clear focus on outputs.  You are also proactive, self-motivated and able to work autonomously.  Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills enable you to build positive relationships with your work colleagues around the globe.  Ideally you are interested in FFI’s work and committed to its mission.

For further details and to apply please visit: www.fauna-flora.org/ourvacancies.php

The closing date for applications is Monday 13th September 2010.  Candidates selected for interview will be invited by email or phone by end of Friday 17th September.  Interviews will take place during the week commencing Monday 20th September.

Regrettably, due to limited resources and the high number of applications we receive, we are only able to contact short-listed candidates.  No agencies please.

FFI values diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity
