Job Description  

Make a difference for the environment as the Chapter Coordinator for the Sierra Club, Cascade Chapter.

The Cascade Chapter of the Sierra Club is looking for a creative, motivated, and well-organized individual who enjoys working with people. The Chapter is a team of staff and volunteers working to empower our membership and the wider citizenry to tackle a broad array of environmental challenges. The work we do ranges from protecting wilderness to fighting climate change. We organize diverse activities such as hikes, community rallies and political campaigns to achieve our goals.

The Chapter Coordinator will work closely with staff and the volunteer leadership to facilitate smooth operations among our major campaigns and day-to-day activities. A key aspect of this is recruitment and management of new volunteers. We are looking for someone with strong communication and organizational skills.


This is a 20 hour/week position. Location is Fremont neighborhood, Seattle.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Context: The Chapter Coordinator handles the daily administrative operations of the Chapter office and acts as an information center for the chapter. Recruits, trains, coordinates, and supervises volunteers for office and other activities. Works with volunteer leadership and staff as part of the team.

Scope: The Chapter Coordinator is responsible for providing office management and administrative functions including the recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers and interns. Implements programs and activities as determined by Chapter Executive Committee to enhance member effectiveness and involvement. Acts as an information resource for chapter volunteers and the general public. Maintains the Chapters records, purchases, supplies and equipment. Processes invoices for payment and helps monitor the annual budget.


Job Activities:

1. Oversees office operations which include purchasing and maintaining office supplies and equipment and ensuring office space is functional and usable for volunteers and chapter events. Maintains service contracts, inventory of all equipment and materials for insurance purposes and tax filings. Develops and implements office procedures.

2. Responds to inquiries concerning membership, outings events, and environmental issues from the general public, members, and volunteers. Provides good public relations and customer service for the Club.

3. Provides administrative support for Chapter Chair and Volunteer leaders.


4. Coordinates volunteer development programs, member outreach and services. Recruits and organizes volunteers. Compiles and maintains a directory of chapter and group leaders, issue activists, noting areas of interest and expertise.

5. Trains, supervises, and schedules volunteers and interns on office systems and functions.

6. Updates and manages webpage and assists with chapter newsletter.

9. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Skills:

-- 2 years general office administration project management, and/or volunteer coordinating experience

-- Proficiency with computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.

-- Proficiency with website management (or easily trainable)

-- General bookkeeping skills.

-- Strong organizational skills

-- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

-- Ability to multi-task in a highly dynamic environment

-- Ability to interact effectively with volunteers, members, staff and the general public.
