- Comprehensive experience in a range of renewable energy, sustainability and resource efficiency projects for both private and public sector clients.
- Key projects delivered: Onshore and offshore wind assessment for the Isle of Man, wind energy technical reports for DECC, on-site resource efficiency training and advice for TK Maxx, project manager for Envirowise eco-design team. - Researched and evaluated scientific literature to assess the potential economic and biological impacts for a number of proposed UK offshore wind farms.
- Collected and analysed commercial fishing data to establish the baseline industry activity for the Environmental Impact Assessment for Walney & West of Duddon, Sheringham Shoal and Barrow offshore wind farms.
- Interviewed local stakeholders and attended public consultation meetings to gather evidence and opinion of fishing activity.
- Wrote and edited sections of Environmental Impact Assessment reports ensuring they were factually accurate, concise and impartial.
- Collected primary data onboard fishing trawlers and analysed samples in the laboratory.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT EXPERIENCE
2010 TK Maxx, Resource Efficiency Training
Assisted with the implementation of a resource efficiency programme and delivered training advice to store staff.
2010 Defra, Avian Collision with Offshore Wind Farm Study
Completed a literature review and survey to assess the viability and effectiveness of all avian collision mitigation options. Wrote final report.
2010 Isle of Man, Renewable Technology Assessment
Completed an assessment of the environmental and economic viability of wind energy projects on the Isle of Man. This involved feasibility studies for small, large and offshore wind turbines.
2010 European Commission, PASODOBLE & CARBONES (Two new climate change assessment models)
Designed a survey for users and service providers of both models and wrote a market assessment report for each.
2010 Renewable Advisory Board, Bioenergy Misconceptions
Undertook research into 10 common ‘myths’ associated with bioenergy and for a RAB report. Modelled a number of bioenergy scenarios using the ‘BEAT’ tool to compare carbon savings.
2009 DECC, Home Improvements Study
Modelled home improvement measures on eight typical housing types to determine energy usage and efficiencies using Design Builder Software.
2009 Envirowise
Project Manager for the government funded programme, Envirowise, delivering resource efficiency and sustainability advice to companies, across a number of sectors. This involved organising training and networking events for companies and developing tools for industries to help address sustainability issues.
2009 DECC, Climate Change Agreements
Part of the Climate Change Agreement (CCA) team, specifically tasked with researching industry and compiling information to produce portfolios for each sector. The portfolios are used to validate data and provide an evidence base for AEA to make proposals for challenging but realistic energy reduction targets for 2012 and 2015 for industry sectors, under the new CCA scheme.
2009 DECC – Renewable Energy Planning Database, Quarterly Report Preparation
Compiled quarterly reports for England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland that summarise national renewable energy figures as reported in the Renewable Energy Planning Database (REPD). This involved analysing REPD data to report key renewable energy statistics, calculating each countries contribution towards UK renewable energy targets and writing the final reports
2009 DECC - Envirowise Eco-Design Packaging Tool
Assisting with the development of product and packaging design tools for the Envirowise website. The tools allow users to input details of their product or a products packaging, and produces a carbon footprint of the item. Features also include suggestions to reduce an items environmental impact.
2009 Site Champion, AEA Environmental Leadership Programme (ongoing)
Part of AEA’s Environmental Leadership team to improve the environmental performance of AEA’s Gemini office building. Recruited and coordinated a specialist team to develop and implement an environmental strategy, and incorporate environmental ‘best practice’ into business activities.
2009 DECC - Bio-Energy Capital Grants Scheme, Monitoring Officer (ongoing)
Monitoring progress and assisting with the implementation of 10 bio-energy projects. Duties include maintaining regular contact with grantees, supervising progress via monthly checks and reports, ensuring all conditions for grant payment are met and formal reports are complied correctly. Projects include bio-energy installations at the redeveloped Kings Cross Station, a number of Universities and Local Authorities.
2009 DECC - Restats Market Updates, Small-Scale Wind
Surveyed and wrote a report on the current installed capacity of small scale wind turbines in the UK, the value of the market, predicted growth potential and investigated market drivers and barriers for uptake. This involved collecting primary data from small-scale wind turbine manufacturers, conducting stakeholder interviews to gather industry views, analysing industry data and investigating market trends.
2009 – Scottish Enterprise, Wind Sector Market Forecast Report
Study on the current status and future development of the UK and Scottish small-scale wind industry. This involved gathering qualitative and quantitative data, conducting interviews with industry stakeholders, analysing information and forecasting industry development over the next 5 years.
2009 Energy Saving Trust - Account Manager, Advanced Monitoring Trials (ongoing)
An account manager for field trials of new energy saving technology. The purpose of the trial is to test the energy saving potential of specially designed thermostats in 600 UK households over two years.
2008 – Monitoring Officer, BERR Offshore Wind Capital Grants Scheme
Monitoring Officer for Scroby Sands, Barrow, Lynn & Inner Dowsing offshore wind farms. Maintained regular contact with projects and monitored construction progress, approved grant claims when conditions for payments
had been met and ensured quarterly and annual reports were completed correctly and submitted on time.
2008 – Offshore Wind Capital Grants Programme Progress Review, BERR
Arranged and conducted stakeholder interviews with offshore wind industry executives.
2006 – Walney & West of Duddon Offshore Wind Farm, Scottish Power/Dong Energy A/S Collected and analysed commercial fishing data in the Eastern Irish Sea to establish the baseline industry activity for the Environmental Impact Assessment. Also assisted in assessing the potential economic and environmental impacts associated with the construction and operation of the wind farm. This also involved consultation with local fishermen, analysis of fisheries data.
2005 – Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm, Scira Offshore Energy
Profiled the natural fish resources and biodiversity in the Greater Wash and area of the wind farm. The study characterised the sensitivity of the marine environment so to predict the environmental impact of the wind farm on native fish populations. This involved literature research, gathering information from local organisations and stakeholders and analysis of fish stock data to establish baseline conditions.
2005 – Thanet Offshore Wind Farm – Warwick Energy
Undertook surveys in the Thames Estuary to assess the spawning condition and location of the local herring stock. The purpose of the study was to assess the potential impacts of noise and vibration on herring populations during the construction of Thanet offshore wind farm. This involved literature reviews, sampling and laboratory analysis to determine population sex ratios and spawning stages.
2005 – Barrow Offshore Wind Farm – Centrica / Dong Energy A/S
Collected fisheries data and financial evidence to identify the legitimate recipients and appropriate levels of compensation to be paid to fishermen displaced by the construction of the Barrow offshore wind farm.
