  • An interdisciplinary course that combines conservation and biodiversity science and practice with an understanding of global socio-economic political and institutional environments within which conservation policy and management decisions are made. 
  • Subjects Covered: Contemporary issues in Biodiversity Conservation, Conservation Governance, Environment and Development, Long Term Ecology, Strategic Conservation Planning, Conservation Biogeography, Managing Dynamic Ecosystems, Cultural Heritage and Environmental Change, Conservation Ethics and Values.
  • Awarded the Muriel Wise travel grant by St. Hilda’s College, University of Oxford to carry out MSc dissertation in Bhutan on the topic: Mitigating or Creating Human Wildlife Conflict? An Ethnographic Study from Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary. The study was conducted in one of the most rural areas in eastern Bhutan.
  • Produced a 15 min documentary to supplement the thesis.

 2009   Oxford Ethica Conference

  • One of the two student hosts for Oxford Ethica, an annual conference on social entrepreneurship, business and ethics.  Helped organise the conference and participated in a rebuttal session. The conference involved interacting closely with eminent social entrepreneurs like Peter Kellner, co-founder of Endeavour one of the world’s leading social entrepreneurial organisation and Bipin Agarwal CEO of Redhwak Investments Group whose businesses have more than a billion dollar turnover.

 

2008- Present.               Bhutan Observer

  • Correspondent in the UK for Bhutan Observer- Bhutan’s first bilingual national newspaper. Reporting stories from the West related and relevant to Bhutan.

2006   The New Indian Express, Bangalore, India- Intern

  • India’s respected national newspaper. Editing, reporting, writing features and profiles.

AWARDS

  • Awarded the first His Majesty King of Bhutan’s Scholarship. Also the first Bhutanese woman to attend the University of Oxford. 
  • Committee member of the Oxford SAARC (South Asian Association) Society 2010
  • Top 15 candidates for the final round of world’s best marketing fellowship WPP 2010, selected from 1900 applicants.
  • Twice awarded the Indian Ambassador’s scholarship for undergraduate studies.
  • Selected by the Royal Government of Bhutan as a young ambassador to United Nations International Students Conference of Amsterdam (UNISCA). Chaired by Mrs. Nene Annan. Member of the Human Rights Commission. Represented the country of Sudan and the highlights were the Israel Palestine issues and former child soldier’s integration into mainstream societies.
  • Guest of India to the National Cadet Corp republic day camp in New Delhi, a cultural exchange program. Met eminent ministers and dignitaries including the former Prime Minister A.B Vajpayee.
  • Representative of Bhutan in the SAARC Rainbow Scouts Friendship Camp, Bhutan
  • Two times national champion in table tennis and one time in badminton. Part of school and college teams. Over six time winners in debates and quizzes at the national level in Bhutan.
